iOS 18 will be Apple's most "ambitious" update

Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Apple had paused development of new features for iOS 18 to focus on fixing bugs. Despite the one-week pause, the company still has big ambitions for an iPhone software update next year…

In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple has internally called iOS 18 is “ambitious and exciting”. The goal is that iOS 18 will ship with “significant new features and design” along with significant performance and security improvements.

Specific details about the new features are still unclear, but Gurman pointed out that iOS 18 will launch “after a few years of updates” for iPhone and iPad users. The biggest recent change to iOS is in the 2020 iOS 14 version, which brings conveniences to the Home Screen.

Previously, Bloomberg reported that Apple has a series of new artificial intelligence features in development for iOS 18.

How will pausing iOS 18 feature development for a week affect its release on next year? Gurman said that "there probably won't be a significant delay in the final software release."

We're still seven months away from WWDC 2024, where Apple will introduce iOS 18. A lot can change between now and when the new operating system officially launches.

What do you expect from iOS 18? A bunch of new features and design changes, or do you want Apple to focus more on bug fixes and quality control?
